Plein Air Reimagined

The impressionist painters were very interested in natural light and began painting outdoors. This was the beginning of plein-air painting. These paintings are infused with the exceptional light that these painters saw in nature.

Beth Barry’s plein-air paintings started outdoors and were completed in the studio. The experience of what she saw outside was combined with her abstract sensibility. Subsequently these paintings are her expressionistic response to the actual landscapes. Some of the paintings are accompanied by photographs of the image so that the transition from photo to painting can be seen and understood.
